Importing and syncing B wav files
Hi i am a sound recordist. I am currently working on a project that is being edited using fcp. The help that our editor ( who is new to fcp) needs is this.
it is a video shoot with mixed sound being recorded to the camera. At the same time I am recording separate tracks onto my mac using Metacorder. The Bwav files are all stamped with the timecode from the camera. My editor has been cutting using the audio from the camera tracks. He has had a request from our sound post production department that the omf file that he will be supplying reference the Bwav files. So what we need to find out is. Is there a quick way for him to import the files and sync them up to the already edited show. I hope that this makes sense. and any help would be appreciated.

I really doubt there’s any quick solution. I’d just have him start overcutting the camera audio with the bwav files, and you’ll probably be done long before you could force FCP to re-link to anything.

I don’t think that will will happen, the project is to far down the line for that. We are curently on our 198th beta cam roll and already have some finished episodes.regards Ray

I wouldn’t try to do that in FCP. Although there is a timecode relationship between the B wavs and the camera original, I don’t think there is any automated way to sync based on code.
If I was to do that in my studio I would use my audio DAW to conform the files as reels from an EDL. The system I use is dSP which is not common but can do this. Ask your audio post people if they have similar tools.
