I was using a Mackie MCU with no problem in FCP 5. Somewhere along the line in the 5.1.2-5.1.4 I started having it go AWOL. Trashing the FCP preferences and then adin it back in under Control Surfaces in FCP would bring it back, but it doesn’t stay. Things are no different in FCP 6 and nothing else has changed other than FCP Studio 2 and Adobe CS3.

Anybody have a Mackie MCU working in FCP 5.1.4 or FCP 6?

Any other firewire devices running on your machine? Any updated drivers for the MCU?

I have a Tascam FW-1884 using the Mackie control protocol.

    No problems here.

I think I’ve had to reset the Control Surface dialog box once in the last 6 months.

Working in FCP 6 as well, but that’s only been running for less than a day.

    Hello,

I remember having the same problem with my FCP setup. I was surprised to discover that the audio mix tool had to be open for the mackie to work (even if it was hidden it had to be open somehwere on the layout).

    I hope this helps,

    Paul

[JeremyG] “Any other firewire devices running on your machine? Any updated drivers for the MCU?

This one is MIDI driven, so firewire isn’t the issue

[Patrick Inhofer] “I have a Tascam FW-1884 using the Mackie control protocol.

I had the Tascam, but discovered it was problematic with the Io and the Kona LH. Both AJA and Tascam are aware of it. So, we had to go the Mackie route to use MIDI instead.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys…

Mackie MCU fine here too – both with 5 and 6. Bit weird with Soundtrack but then, I think that’s Soundtrack.

On a more helpful note – I see you trashed the FCP prefs but I suspect it’s more likely you have a midi issue. Have you tried updating the driver, or re-installing?

    Good Luck,

    Ken.

FCP 6 is on the way, but my MCU is working fine with 5.1.4.
It has disappeared in the past, but not often. no different from a firewire drive disappearing on rare occasions.

Mackie has some new boards coming out that are USB based (Midi converter built in).
I’m running the MIDI/USB Edirol interface… no drama.
