I’m on the last day of the low budget feature I’ve been working on for the last seven months. A screener DVD has to be with the financiers tomorrow.

For the last two and half weeks I have been working through the audio on the timeline adjusting the volume on the audio mixer tool.

When I watch the film back (75mins. DVCPRO HD) the mixer seems work in real time with the film. If a music track is mixed down to -3db, it will play way to loud. But if I touch the fader on the Mixer tool, not even adjust it, the volume returns to the way I’ve mixed it.

I think it could be one of a few reasons.

    1. I’m using 20 tracks of audio. The most at the same time being used is 8.
    2. I have the mixer window dragged out of FCP and sitting on a small CRT monitor to the left of my 23” flatscreen. It’s not in the FCP project browser.
    3. FCP hasn’t recognised my adjustments. ( I understand if I move the mixer sliders during playback then I get keyframed audio fades. I make sure to stop the film so the overall volume is brought down.

I have to have screeners DVD’s for the financiers tomorrow (my video has already been encoded to MPEG2) and I’m sh*tt*ng it. I know we should have used pro tools for the mix, but there wasn’t any cash for stuff like that.

Any suggestions, help, general advice would be greatly appreciated!
