DV Jaggies in FCP
I need to get rid of DV Jaggies in Final Cut Pro… im having trouble with shake right now.. is there any way to add filters in FCP to remove most of the jaggies around my talent he is on a blue screen… and his body is jaggy so when i key its all gross looking… I just need to get rid of the DV Jaggies, smooth it out. Was wondering if u could do it in FCP..

I would apply a 4:1:1 color smoothing filter to the footage before you try to pull the key. FCP has one. Or you could use Nattress Standards Converter to convert to 4:2:2 color space.
But it’s the 4:1:1 color compression that is causing you grief.

Color smoothing will help, but I find I often need to add a mtte edge softener to help. Under Video Filters, you’ll find Mattes and in there are a couple different fllters you might try to see if you get a better looking key.
Here’s one more thought, apply 3-way color corrector and adjust to help better define edges. I’d sugges the following order of filters:
411 color smoothing
3-way color corrector
chroma key
matte featherJacques Bailhe

It’s G Chroma Sharpen in Film Effects that does the chroma fixing. Can work well for this, but you’ve got to render in a 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 timeline.

The Nattress plugin work great. But if you want to pull the key in SHAKE you have some Macros that helps with the DV footage (ie, 4XX enhacer). Have a look in: Highend3d.com

Andrew Shanks created a series of tutorials specifically about how to key DV footage in Shake. Go over to the shake forum & look up the tutorials. They’re really good, and many of the lessons apply to other formats as well.
