Compressor/FCP Conflict
Posted by Adam Howden on May 14, 2007 at 10:35 pmHi,
I’m getting an error message and conflict when I try and export a sequence from FCP via Compressor. Compressor works fine when I run it on its own but I must export the program to be encoded as a self contained quicktime. What happens is when I go file, export, compressor FCP tells me that the file name is already in use, Compressor then boots up but the preview in compressor is disabled and its all starts behaving pretty badly.
Any help would be greatly apprecited 🙂

Thanks for dropping some info my way, just tried this and it hasn’t made a difference, any other thoughts?

May 15, 2007 at 1:49 pmWhy are you using a SCSI RAID and not a Firewire or eSATA? Just curious.
Use FCP Rescue 5 to trash your FCP preferences.
Try doing a “Save As” and save the project under a new name.
Try duplicating the Sequence in the Browser and exporting that to Compressor.
Try in Compressor, giving the new files a name other than what the project in FCP is called.– Apple Certified Trainer

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.” -

May 15, 2007 at 4:42 pmMake sure you’re running all the latest software.. run Software Update. There’s nothing there that will hurt to install on a 5.1.4 system.

May 15, 2007 at 10:36 pmHi bbasler,
Thanks I’ll try those things you’ve recomended, I’m pretty sure alll the software is up to date, 10.4.9, 5.1.4 etc
I’m using a SCSI RAID because I often run 10 Bit Digibeta programs and when I first set up my system in 2003 I purchased 2 Seagate 10K drives to run off a Attotech ULD3, It was cheaper to buy two more SCSI drives than set up a SATA array.
Thanks, Adam 🙂

May 15, 2007 at 11:28 pmJust wondering. I had just read the umpteenth article about SCSI/USB/Firewire, history, etc. I have a hospital I’m building out a new production studio for. They have some VERY old stuff, including a SCSI RAID tower that’s older than god. Just don’t see too much SCSI around anymore. As a retired IT engineer, I remember being totally blown away by the speed of SCSI, but it was expensive. The good old days, when we thought then what was “unbelievably fast”, is today considered snail slow and useless… just reminiscing…

May 16, 2007 at 5:02 amOk,
So I’ve tracked down the problem, just thought I’d post it for any other poor soules out there that may need it.
It was Norton antivirus, I had it set to Auto – Protect, in system preferences you can either have this on or off, by switching it off then re-booting FCP 5.1.2 everything is back to normal…
