i’ve got to make hundreds 30 second movies with photos, music and voiceover. the photos and voiceovers are named distictly, and each movie consists of 5 photos numbered ****1-****4 (the first photo shows at the start and end and the * repersent the distinct name.) the quickest way i’ve found is to paste attributes-content onto the template. surely there is a way to automate this? fcp 5.1.4 on a macbook pro.

since my version of fcp doesn’t support applescript, is there another program i could do this with? i’m outputting to mini dv tape. sometimes it amazes me what has been left out of fcp.
thanks in advance for the help… hopefully one day i can return the favor.

You could do this with Filemaker & an XML export.
Chances are by the time you’ve got it working you could have finished it manually though.

Another thought, why don’t you put all the files in different bins but call all the media by the same filenames. Then open up a new timeline for each & reconnect.

peter, thanks, that last thought of yours was great.
shane, thanks for the lead, $299 for that, i’ll probably wait til i can afford to upgrade to fcp6 with applescript functionality…
    still needing ideas though….

Are you sure that FCP 6 has applescript support? I asked an Apple rep this question, and he said no.

It’s not listed under What’s new in FCP6, or under Tech Specs. Soundtrack Pro 2 lists that it is scriptable from Final Cut Pro 6, but I don’t think that means FCP is scriptable.

iPhoto is great for doing just what you want. Import the soundtrack and pick the photos. iPhoto will then adjust the duration of each photo to fit the soundtrack, plus it will even put editable moves and a transition on each photo. That’s about as monkeylike as I can make it.
