    Hey guys,
I have a Decklink HD Extreme drive here. Just got tons of footage from client on HDcam (it is 1920×1080, even though we were supposed to get digibetas. So…we are renting a deck. I was toying with the idea of bringing it in uncompressed, but it is going to be really huge if we do that (lots of footage). So…since this is actually for an SD spot, was wondering if it makes sense to bring it in at 1080 DVCPRO HD instead, or to bring it in uncompressed but down rez it to 1280×720 on the capture? I guess that leads me to the second question…can this card do that? Can I do a realtime down conversion from 1080 to 720? Do I have to change anything on the deck for this, or just choose the 1280×720 easy setup instead of the 1920×1080 one?

I crossed posted this on the BMD forum, but it is my first time over there and I am more comfortable with this forum (and usually get speedier responses than the harware specific ones).

    Thanks,
    Eli

There’s no reason to go from 1080 to 720 for an SD edit. Really makes no difference in the cut if your ultimate goal is SD.

I don’t know about that card, but the AJA Kona’s do the downconvert to SD in realtime no matter which HD version you’re running.

Make sure the deck has a down convert option (SD SDI) and capture SD uncompressed if your card won’t do it.

no…want to stay HD…doing lots of GFX pushins and stuff. Want to convert from 1920×1080 to 1280×720 for file size saving.

    Best,
    Eli
