I came into work today expecting to tweek a edit that was approved yesterday. BUT when i try to open the project I saved last night I get “unreadable or too new for this version of Final Cut”.

I’ve tried openng the project every conceivable way and I recive the same message going back 5 hours in my auto saved files. I’ve scapped the prefs and repaired the disk several time with no success. Older project are opening fine.

The project was created and saved to the same machine. The computer was turned off after the session yesterday and turned back on today. What gives?

    Thanks

Wow, that’s crazy. Did you manage to open it, or are you still getting the error?

I’m still unable to open that file. I ended up recutting the project and have had no problem (knock on wood). I really want to know what happened and what to do if it happens again.

    Hi ….

The same happened to me in one of my various projects.
Just in one computer, just one project.
The only valid one I could open was from yesterday at 10:14, so a full day of work was lost.
We use FCP 5.1.4, QT 7.1.6…
    Al other projects working fine.

Checked with another FCP expert but he never experienced this before …

It seems this could happen. Not frequent at all, but is there.

The editor says nothing else was changed in the computer, no hungs, no application errors ….

So the editor started to re-cut the film

I have the exact same problem, I tried everything i could think of, I reinstalled the whole system incl. Tiger and that didnt help. I tried to repair permissions and that didnt help. My last hope is to open this project on a different machine and save it with a new name and try to open it on my machine again. Dont think it will work but im desperate. I have 2 years of work put in to this project and YES I have several backups that all behaves the same. did anyone talk to Apple about this or can anyone tell me who to talk to at Apple?
    Any ideas anyone?
