I need help figuring out how to use the typewriter text effect in FCP. I can get it to type, speed up, slow down… but I can’t set the “typing” time then get it to stop and hold the copy. Anybody kind enough to help? Thanks, Chris

  • Build multiple matching (for spacing) titles.

Design each to “complete” itself at the point you want to “hold.”

Layer and “stagger” them so that each new one starts at the right time.

Use keyframes in the pause parameter. Push one to 100… it stops.

Awesome. Thanks! it starts slower than it finishes when it is “typing” but that did the trick. Thanks again!

The higher the ‘pause’ figure in the parameters, the sooner before the end of the text clip the typing stops. Obviously this makes the typing write on faster, as it has to happen sooner in the clip. I think this pause figure represents the percentage of the clip that has the typing completed.

If that doesn’t suit, duplicate the clip and add it on to the end of the typed clip with a pause setting of 100 – this means the typing is already complete, and then this clip length can determine the duration of the hold more accurately.
