Apple rocks
Posted by John Davidson on May 2, 2007 at 7:15 pmHey guys,
Slightly ot, but I had to share.
I ordered FCP studio 2 the day it came out. 3 days ago I get a call from my business account person, who out of the blue saw my order and rebilled it with a business plan discount (about 8 % I think).
Just another reason I love Apple.

May 2, 2007 at 7:40 pmSo what exactly do you have to do to qualify for the business plan discount? Did he say? I work full time as an editor, but I’m wanting to purchase the suite for my own personal use (free-lance jobs) An extra 8% would probably solidify the deal!

May 2, 2007 at 8:45 pmWas this discount directly from Apple?
Thanks to our long ago past governor, Anne Richards, Texas offers Tax Exempt status to any equipment purchased (legal terms) “for the manufacturing of television production”.
So as long as you have a business id number (some places don’t even ask for it), just tell the clerk as they’re ringing you up, that you are buying this tax exempt, fill out a simple form, and viola! Saves 8.25% of cost.
Slightly off topic- I did this when I upgraded to the video ipod (yes, you can use this in the manufacturing of television production). I also traded in my old ipod for an ADDITIONAL 10%. The guy at the Apple store said thats a better deal than the employees get.
Back to topic-
This was a move to bring back production companies to Texas, not sure if it worked, but I’ll take the discount. -

May 2, 2007 at 9:06 pmIn California, we get 5.25% off taxes for Post production purchases.
In other words, we only pay 3% tax.Stuart Ferreyra

May 2, 2007 at 10:12 pmThis works for self-employed freelancers and non-corporate folks, from what I understand. They also take the california tax exemption, too.
Let me get the best way to post my contact’s into without getting her in trouble or spammed by bots.

May 3, 2007 at 8:00 pmHow do you go about getting this discount? Do you just say “I work in TV.”

May 3, 2007 at 9:43 pmIt is decided by your state’s legislation.
Clinton did it for California when a lot of business was going to Canada. If your state does not support it, you have to pay full tax.

May 3, 2007 at 11:56 pmIf you mean the apple business plan discount, i think it just works buying from this number. If you mean the ca sales tax exemption, you have to work in california, be incorporated (or LLC), and plan to use the equipment primarily in California.
