  Weird codec warning

  Hello all,
  I am working on this box that is a 2×2.66 dual-core intel Xeon with a 6TB xserve raid running fcp 5.1.4 with a decklink HD extreme. I was working on some DVCPROHD (1080p24)stuff and once I picked my selects (only one shot in each spot), I brought them into a 10bit SD timeline, also running at 23.978. Everything seems dandy editing wise, but whenever I try to export a quicktime movie using “export quicktime movie” I get this error that says “Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card”. I checked my QT preferences and the 10bit 4:2:2 codec and the Blackmagic codecs seem to be there. Also if I export it 10bit using “export using quicktime conversion” then I don’t have any problem…it’s so weird. Sometimes when I just leave FCP sitting for a while I will get this warning too. I have trashed my prefs but to no avail. What could this be? Also, I’ve only been working with AJA cards until now, but I know that they switched over to the apple 10bit codec from their own…did BMD also? Or do they still use their proprietary one?

  P.S.
  In other news, I am finding that the turn down arrows on my bins are being super unresponsive. If I turn them to be open, I have to wait a second or two before I click it again to close the bin; If I try to close it immediately, then nothing happens…it’s silly, but it is driving me nuts. I don’t remember ever having this problem before.

  Trash your preference, resetup your 10 bit easy setup and re-export.

  And as far as I know, blackmagic is using Apple codecs, yes.

  I understand that DVCProHD is resized by hardware on BM and AJA cards, so it’s possible that FCP needs the card present when re-encoding for export. Only a wild guess, but I know that the AJA card does up-rezzing on DVCProHD horizontally in order to speed render times. Perhaps that’s what the error message is refering to…
