So…after checking the stats on my old G5 Dual 2.5, I find it has an AGP bus (running the ATI 9600 XT). Therefore I cannot use the PCI EXpress G5 ATI Radeon Z1900 GT, 512MB on my system, correct? Damn…now I am forced to get the 8 core Mac Pro if I want to learn Color and get good performance from Motion 3 😉

    See how that works?

    Not completely true yet.
FCS 2, should work with it and with the X800XT ATI board.

Lets see how we do in a few weeks…

Yeah, it’ll work, but you don’t think you’ll get more performance on the latest greatest computer/graphics card? Really?

Of Course! But, will the expense be justified? In our case, we would have to buy 5 new Macs
just to get speedier results. Now, if the business and clients demand it. We’ll go get them.

But if the investement doesn’t considerably increase the income, we won’t upgrade right this
moment. The only way to know is to give it at least 3 months.

Best case scenario for us is to do business as usual and upgrade next year. Not counting
May (that is when FCS 2 gets released), there are only 7 more months to go. Give it another
3 months to see how the market does, and we find ourselves 4 months closer to 2008, right
around when new line of Macs should be released from Apple.

I have checked around and the X800XT ATI board isnt available anymore, so I guess that discussed possibility does not apply to my situation.

Sounds like you got it all figured out. My dual 2.0 G5 is in dire need of an upgrade. My Macbook Pro runs circles around it in certain situations.

I am waiting for as long as possible as well. Once After Effects ships as a Universal Binary, that’s when I will probably hop in. Hopefully with a newly updated Mac Pro.

I hear you. Believe me, my hands itch to go buy new Macs.
So everytime they itch, I just give them a good smack with the biggest hammer I can find. 🙂

–PCI EXpress G5 ATI Radeon Z1900 GT, 512MB–

Where are you finding this? It is not on the Apple web site? The one on the Apple web site is an X1900 GT which has 256 MB Vram not 512 MB Vram as does the one made soley for the MacPro?

Do you get workman’s comp for that?

    What FinalOne is saying is…

ATI makes the X1900 GT for the eariler G5 models. But let me ask. What graphics adapter do you have now? It may suffice but Motion may not be a speedy as you like. But keep in mind, what we saw at NAB was running on the Octo Core systems.
