Quicktime, question about saving
Posted by Dan Riley on April 30, 2007 at 4:22 pmSeems like Quicktime does not allow someone (a client in particular)
to save a streamed video without Quicktime Pro. After watching the video on my computer
that DOES have Quicktime pro, I can “save as source”. But this option
does not appear to work on my client’s Windows computer.
Is there something I can do on my end with the quicktime file to allow
people to save it?Dan

April 30, 2007 at 7:46 pmYes. You need Quicktime Pro to save and edit movies. Thats really the only benefit to buying the Pro version.

Not true QT Pro is a great tool.

I use it to convert my audio CD’s to 48khz and make format conversions with it as well. $25 well spent in my book.

May 1, 2007 at 4:40 amI only meant that export was the only major feature you get from it (though there are a few others)
Wasnt saying it wasnt useful. The original poster (Danrnw) was trying to export from a system w/o Pro and didnt get why it wasnt working…I was trying to make the point that export functions were pretty much the whole point of Quicktime Pro.

Agreed. I assume you are referring to non-FCP computers you own, since you automatically have Quicktime Pro for free on FCP systems.

I and many other quicktime users use other features of quicktime much much more then to just save a quicktime file.
That feature is NOT the main feature in quicktime pro, and it is NOT the only major feature if quicktime pro.

What other features do you use that are not in the non-pro version?
Is it the full screen video?…the capture functions? Just curious…what am I missing?

May 1, 2007 at 4:59 amAudio and Video conversions, are a BIG one quickly convert a mp3 to a AIFF for compatibility with FPC for example, the ability to quickly cut a small portion of a video out, save a small portion of a video file as a new fail of its own, quickly save a video frame as a image file, full screen playing a a video file, the ability to loop a file. etc, etc, etc

May 1, 2007 at 5:08 amI kinda lumped all those functions in as part of the export and editing functions. They are all very useful and distinct functions. (though personally, I do most of my conversions with Compressor droplets including the conversions to AIFF)
I think we are kinda on the same page…I’m just expressing myself really badly tonight. I actually wanted the poster to get Quicktime Pro, and I think I implied the opposite….that it wasnt very useful.
Apologies all.
