logo files in videos
Hi,
I am making 30-second video clips for products which require their company logos to appear. I add photoshop files to my timeline, sometimes I have to key out the white background of the logo so it can appear over video footage. Nothing new about that. Ho hum. But when I export and compress, be it Flash or H.264, the logos look like pudu. Not pleasing to my picky clients at all. Is there any way to have a smashing vector graphic looking logo in your compressed video clips? Am I daydreaming foolishly?

First, you should use Photoshop to knock out the alphas for the logos & save the files in an alpha friendly format like .tif, .tga or .pct. That will save you a lot of trouble in your timeline.
You should also be aware that any heavily compressed codec will not be kind to grapics. It may take quite a bit of hit & miss testing to compress the video in a way that won’t look like ca-ca.

Thanks for your suggestions.I’ll give it a shot. Nuther question:
If I save in .tif or .pct format, is there a way to preserve the transparency of the spaces in between letters in the logo? I can’t use logos with a white background. Seems like whenever I save in anything that isn’t psd, white is always lurking in the background where my gorgeous landscape is supposed to be.

I guess I didn’t understand what you meant by knocking out the alphas.. ..

In Photoshop, you need to create an alpha channel that will be transparent around the logo, and opaque underneath the logo. With the magic wand, you can select the white that you want to knock out, invert your selection, and in the bottom of the channels tab, you click the button that copies your selection to an alpha channel.
