quick subclip issue. Help?
Posted by Rick Neely on April 22, 2007 at 11:37 pmHi,
digitized twenty dv tapes and did subclpiing to four of them.
I then had to move them to an external drive to use at another FCP workstation.
I copied render files, capture scratch, and autosaves.
When I open the project on other workstation. Subclips are nonexisten or don’t reference anything? Any ideas what might be up??

April 23, 2007 at 12:35 amHi,
thank for fast response.
according to the guy I gave tha material to, I think the master clips do connect, but he doesn’t have any subclip info.
I’m thinking one problem might be I didn’t change reel #s and the time code on each tape was the same. But I think I can correct that via changing the numbers manually and linking the clips.
where I’m a bit befuddled is the guy says the clips don’t say anything at all. Ideas?

April 23, 2007 at 12:45 amFCP connects to files via file name only.
it doesnt search the file’s metadata for reel# & TC like avid can do.
as long as the files’ TC or reel# doesnt change, then they should connect.“I think the master clips do connect, but he doesn’t have any subclip info.”
sorry, but this also is too vague.
i dont know what you (or he) means
are the subclips offline?
or are there no subclips at all in the project?“where I’m a bit befuddled is the guy says the clips don’t say anything at all”
again that’s too vague to help.
what does that mean exactly?
no NAMES?nick

April 23, 2007 at 12:53 amsory, rick, i dont mean to sound negative…
maybe as i’ve never seen anything like this, i don’t recognise the symptoms.
still, it seems like you need more clarity from this guy.nm

In the future you should use Media Manager for copying and/or moving material like this to another directory on a another hard drive. It works very well and insures that any media in the project, bin(s), or sequenece(s) you specify will actually be recognized when you open that project file on the other computer.
