  • Did LiveType go bye-bye in FCS2

    Hi All,

I asked the guys at the LiveType Central table at NAB if LiveType goes away in FCS2 on Wednesday night at the FCPUG meeting starring Walter Murch (which was outstanding, by the way), and they told me that LiveType is still in FCS2 however Apple is not featuring it like they had with FCS1 and instead featuring Color.

LiveType Central, which has fantastic extra templates and tools for LiveType, has two new discs (4 and 5) that they showed at their booth.

However, I don’t see anything at the Apple website regarding LiveType even being in FCS2 let alone a LiveType 2 or anything.

I like LiveType and I use it a lot, although I hope to get more into Motion in the next year (especially having Motion templates and plugs available in FCP6). Does anyone know any more about LiveType in FCS2?

    Thanks in advance!
    -Pat

Note that Live Type is featured on the sidebar on the right of the page. It’s still there…they dont talk much about it because it has not really been updated at all.

I think the ability to access Motion’s text capability from within FCP 6 will make it irrelevant for a lot of people.

When you are on the FCS page if you hit buy now, it takes you to a page
that lists what’s in the box. It says Live Type 2 is in there.

    Hi John Pale and Danrnw,

Thanks for the info! I didn’t even think to click on “buy now” and figured LiveType just wasn’t there any more because it wasn’t on the main features page.

I agree, John, that Motion’s integraton with FCP6 will now start to make LiveType obsolete anyway as editors like me, who do a lot of layering of elements including graphics the old fashioned way (on timelines), will start using Motion plugs and templates to speed things up and improve the look of the video. I’ll have to see how much longer I end up using LiveType after FCS2 is installed, but it’s good to know that it’s still there for now and even for the distant future since I’ve got several projects saved with LiveType in them and I’d be screwed if revisions came in down the road and I’d have to completely re-build them from nothing!

Thanks again to both of you,
    -Pat
