I’m trying to find the best settings for a range of export needs and am finding the FCP manual incredibly unhelpful. Any anyone recommend the best codec and necessary settings for such codec for the following kinds of exports?

    – DV for Web
    – DV for TV
    – HDV for Web
    – HDV for TV
    – HD for Web
    – HD for TV

There is no simple answer, compression is more of an artform than a science. You need to experiment to see what works best for you.

Meanwhile, Sorenson 3 QT does a great job, as does QT h264 (if you add some chroma), as does WMV, and Flash 8 as well. The QT formats are all available to you within FCP without ading anything additional, so try the presets in Compressor and then tinker until you’re happy.
