  The new app in final Cut studio, color…didn’t Apple buy out a company that had a dedicated color correction app?
  Is Color basically this software, but modified by Apple?

  Yes, the company was called Silicon Color and the app was named Final Touch.

  Most of Apple’s production software came from other companies:

  Color – formerly Final Touch from Silicon Color

  Shake – from NothingReal

  DVD Studio Pro – technology from Spruce/Astarte

  Final Cut Pro – formerly Final Cut from Macromedia

  Final Cut Server – formerly Artbox from Proximity

  Logic – from Emagic

  LiveType – technology from Prismo Graphics

  Cinema Tools – formerly Film Logic from Digital Film Tree

  Apple’s strength is in being able to unify these disparate products into a cohesive bundle and enhance their interoperability.
