I have a DVDSP3 project that added up to about 7 gigs once I laid it all out. So I did the math and recompressed all my MPEG files.. I confirmed the total size of the resulting new files were less than 4.5gig. The new files are the same filenames and I put them in the same path.

When I opened the project back up, the total size showed in the upper right hand corner as 12.0 gig. I went through and added it up again from the asset list within DVDSP3 and it only added up to 4.5 gig.

What would make DVDSP3 think this is a 12gig disc?

First thing that springs to mind is that you’ve dragged in the same asset a number of times. For example, you’ve got the main movie in there to play through fully. Then you also have the movie in there again to play chapters or somesuch. DVD SP has created a new track instead of referencing the track you already had in there.

Check through your tracks and see if you have any dupes. If you do, then get rid of one (probably two judging by the size being reported back) and make sure that you set all relevant connections to the main track remaining.

If you only want to play portions of your main track, then check out the Stories function.

    HTH,

I just thought of this.. If I had already specified a build folder and done an initial build, then gone back and re-encoded all the MPEG2 files, then opened the project up again.. Could it be counting the VOBs that are still sitting in that build folder AND the new MPEGs that it just re-linked when I opened the project again?

I’m thinking if I delete the VOBs sitting in that build folder, it might solve it? I’d try it now except I’m home today, where I have all Windows machines. Have to wait till I go to work tomorrow to try it.
