I am use final cut pro 5.1. How do i make the old movie effect? Do i need to get plug ins?

Not enough information, I’m afraid. Which of the hundreds of different “old movie” effects are you trying to do? There literally dozens, thousands if you include subtle variations.
The question comes up here and on every other FCP forum at least once a week so you can search for many interesting threads with suggestions on how to do it within FCP and how to purchase a wide selection of plugs. Depends on the particular effects you think you need to call “old movie.”
