Retail tips and tricks?
With a fairly basic assortment of plugins, no Sapphire, no Boris, is there a list of cool tricks and transitions anywhere for retail work? I haven’t done much of this but I’m on such a job right now, and want to avoid the cheesedog deluxe factor, kinda tough on a budget. You have to make this stuff really fast, and it has to be relatively cool.
If I did tutorials, I would think this would make a pretty useful and popular item. Anyone heard of anything like this? Anyone got a few quick customizable recipes for this with FCP, LiveType and Motion?

Anything other then simple cuts and fads can often as you say look cheesy. But Digital Juice has some cool looking swipes that you can add.

Hey zrb, I have written off DJ of late, just because of the cheese factor, but you are right, the Swipes might be a good idea, I especially like the fact that they have the sounds built-in, a real time-saver. Funny, in their promo movie, they address cheesieness right up front, they’ve done a good job of making cheese kinda cool. Or at least a bit less cheesy.
But, since they are closed on weekends, and I need these (or something) on Monday, I think I’ll make some of my own tomorrow with Particular and/or Motion, and put in sounds from Soundtrack Pro. It will be great to have ready-to-go transitions with sound. This way I could customize a set of wipes by client or project, and they would be my own. Be a lot faster than screwing around in the edit bay with a client around…

One of my favorite transitions for infomercials that usually avoids the smell of over-ripe limburger if not used too much, is what I call “the old push pull” effect.
Key frame a zoom from 100 to infinity on the last ten frames on the A-side of a cut, and then reverse that for ten frames on the B-side. Add a little swoosh sound effect and there you have it. Its nice because its a fast and somewhat dynamic way to change images without adding any.
I’ve seen this available as a prebuilt transition someplace, or you can easiliy keyframe it yourself in the motion tab.

Yeah, that’s a good one, DH or somebody has one similar, I think it’s called Black Hole or something. Maybe it’s Eureka!But I still need SFX with these, and I’d prefer if those are built in, so I gonna make a bunch tomorrow. If they come out cool I’ll give ’em to ya if you want them.

Chris you also got some nice free transitions in the Telli’sFV, TooMuchTooSoon and Stib’s Transitions. I can not recommendo you any one because I hardly use transitions, but I remember I had a look some times and they where few interesting things,
