    Hi Everyone,

I have DVC Pro HD 1080i60 23.98fps cut and color graded pieces that I want to add to other NTSC 29.97 for a new reel. The DVC Pro stuff looks great and I want to use the best workflow to add 3:2 and downconvert to NTSC. I am not sure if Cinema Tools or Compressor is best or a combination of the two. I also have the original mastered clips as Cineon/DPX image files at 23.98 as well I am trying to preserve image quality while mixing resolutions.
    All ideas appreciated,
    Robert

Cinema Tools and Compressor can’t add in a 2:3 pulldown that I know of.

We use Shake or After Effects.

I may be wrong, but won’t FCP add the pulldown automatically if you place/nest your 23.98 elements in a 29.97 sequence? Honestly, I’ve never done this, but I’d at least try it. Even if this works, I can’t say with any assurance that this is the “best” workflow… but see what happens.. and if you get a minute, post back here, ’cause I’m curious myself.

    Best,

    Ben

Another option is using Nattress Standards Conversion.

I haven’t been able to figure out how to add a 2:3 pulldown in Cinema Tools. Any suggestions? That would be really handy to know.

As far as I can see, it only talks about FCP adding a 2:3 pulldown when it outputs to firewire. My hopes are dash:(

Cinema Tools can not add pulldown. FCP can add pulldown over firewire output only. FCP can not add pulldown to footage without outputing over firewire and re-importing from tape.

The “G Add Pulldown” filter that is part of Nattress standards conversion is the only way to add 2:3 pulldown within FCP that I know of. If you simply simply place 23.98 footage in a 29.97 time timeline you will get 2:2:2:4 pulldown which is very stuttery.
