  • Motion Blur plug for FCP?

Posted by Tom Matthies on April 9, 2007 at 2:06 pm

I use FCP for compositing a fair number of motion graphics. Yea, I should be using After Effects but…
I like to add motion blur to anything that I’m moving around the screen. The motion blur in FCP is a bit lame and doesn’t look quite right. Anyone know of a plug/package that offers a more realistic looking motion blur ala After Effects?

[Tom Matthies] “The motion blur in FCP is a bit lame and doesn’t look quite right.”

Turn the % of blur down to 25 and turn the steps all the way up. This will give you more of an “After Effect” motion blur. You can play with the percentage slightly up or down to taste. The default settings are terrible.

Thanks Walter. That’s pretty much what I usually do, but it still doesn’t look nice and smooth like the blur in some other applications. I can live with it, but I’m just wondering if there might be a better way while staying within FCP.

Well, just wanted to make sure you knew the default setting was lousy.

this is the beast motion blur plugin and for $89.95 is worth it if you are going to do a lot of videos with motion blur effects and need only the best

can be a good idea to use their fields kit deinterlace filter as well to achieve a more filmic look. it is also a good idea to use mattes with this plugin to truly make it shine.

it can also remove motion blur
