Variable Speed Tutorial
Does anyone know of a good (and free) video tutorial out there on the web about the variable speed tool in FCP? That tool always just feels so counter-intuitive to me and I would like to have a stronger understanding of it.

…or does anyone know of a plug-in that is better for this. I have read the Ken Stone article, and I want to do what he is mentioning under “limitations”, i.e. just ramp the speed up without slowing it down somewhere else. There must be an easier, mor efficient way of doing this than the cheat that he mentions. Anyone?

Although not FREE, this issue of Edit Well has a great tutorial on variable speed. Well money spent for subscription.

Twixtor is a ‘maybe’ as a plug in option. It produces very good images (no banding/ motion blur) but it’s about as slow as molases ; even on a new quad macpro.

Thanks for the responses guys, will check all that stuff out. I have Joe’s filters Time Bender, but as far as I can tell it works pretty similarly to the built in time remap tool in FCP. Am I just a moron for not being able to wrap my brain around this tool? I think my biggest problem is I am just a visual learner and anything I read about it just doesn’t ever seem to make complete sense to me. It seems like it should be so easy, but I’m missing a key ingrediant to make it make sense in my mind.

Joe got another plugin call Time Ramper. Is based in Time Bender but it sayd to work better.
