  pls help! do i need to interlace animation for export?

  I’ve got an animation i’ve brought as png sequence to after effects and want to export to mpeg 2 to author. it’s all been drawn and animated in flash and has a lot of keyframes and is quite busy.

  The first time we tried it looked terrible on the tv screen – really flickery.

  I’m going to make it less bright but also wonder if i should be interlacing or choosing not to interlace it?

  this is for a playable dvd for people to play on tv or computer.
  and apparently if its for projection it should be deinterlaced?

  yeah, if your sequence isn’t interlaced, rendering interlaced won’t have any effect… unless you rendered your sequence at 60fps, then you can render 30fps interlaced to help smooth your motion.

  i’m not familiar with flash, but if you can render your sequence out at 60fps (or 30fps interlaced) you should be able to smooth out your animation.

  I nearly always slap on a adjustment layer at top of the comp with

  effect>video>reduce interlace flicker set to ‘1’

  when I do my final renders. This stops most of the eye-gnarling flickers around horizontal edges. On very few occasions has the image gone too soft with this method. YMMV
