Quick way to close all gaps between video?
hey guys. Quick question.
Ive never had to do this because of the quirky ways i work, but someone asked me if it was possible to remove all the gaps between video clips in a timeline, without having to go and manually drag everything together. I guess hes got bits and peices all over his sequence, and wants everything just to slide together.
Seems like a simple feature. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

not a one button solution for this, but
use shift-g to find th next gab forward and when control-clicking (right mouse) on a gab you get a contextual menu with a ‘close gab’ option (be aware that FCP considers all tracks when doing so).
well i’m not sure and don’t have FCP running right now but I wouldn’t be surprised if you find the ‘close gab’ function in the keyboard layout too. -

In final cut, here is how you close all gaps:
Take the last clip in your sequence. Move it to a new video layer above all the others. Make sure its the only one on the video layer.
Click on the blank space before that clip so its highlighted.
Hold down the delete key (the one above the return key, not under the “in” key to the right)
This will start ripple deleting all the spaces….

BIIIIIIG thanks for this one! Time saver! I like to mark my selects my moving them up a track. When I go to start my rough, I just copy any track above 2 over. How did I never know this trick before!!!

You are a dream for the “close all gaps” technique! I used to have a single key cammand for it years ago, an early FCP, and have really missed it. Your trick is clever and almost as easy as the old way that they abandoned. Thanks!
