  • Quicktime compression for client approval

Posted by David Carey on March 13, 2007 at 4:12 am

    Hey
I need advise on the best way to compress a QT file to either email or upload.download from an FTP. I need to send a file to a client for content approval so quality doesn’t have to be great but need to make out what is on the screen.

    Thanks

I like Sorenson 3, 480×360, Best, 4000kbs. This makes a file of about 30megs/minite with very good quality. I still have some clients who can’t view H.264 and the Sorenson renders faster. Usually to big to email so ftp or yousendit is the way to go.

Oh my gosh, with h.264 (or even Sorenson 3) the file could be wonderful at 1/8th that data rate. 320×250, 15fps, 500kbps. No wait to download either if it was simply on a web page too. Click and play or right click to download.

I do client approvals with quicktime on a weekly basis.

I use sorenson 3 codec for video and ima 4:1 for audio.
    320x240x15fps.

Most folks can play sorenson 3 quicktimes, not all can play the latest codecs so thats what I stick with.

I don’t know the exact bitrate but :30 second spots are about 500k.

anyway, it gets the job done and is emailable.
Nice not to have to do vhs dubs anymore. heh

We do client approvals this way all the time and use either Sorenson 3 320×240, MPEG-4 640×480 or good old MPEG, depending on the client’s computer-saaviness. We ship to clients using Webcargo (www.webcargo.net) which sends a link to the client’s e-mail and lets us track the shipment.
