[Thomas] “Is it possible to log and capture on a Pc(Avid express or some other software) to a Lacie disk and then edit in FCP.”

Why would you want to do such a thing? What is wrong with logging an capturing in FCP? It does that you know. The Avid will capture footage as AVI files, which while they MAY work in FCP, they may not work well. Best to use FCP.

And Automatic Duck is for converting sequences from one platform to another…not footage.

Avid will definitly NOT capture AVI, but agreed, Avid captures are not compatible with FCP without transcoding.
If you want to log on PC, use an external decent logging program and export a log list to FCP, have FCP capture that.
You can try my logger if you like, https://www.videotoolshed.com and look for 422 logger (if you have a 422 deck that is…)

The thing is that I would like the producer to log and digitize the next project on to an external drive, and I don

You could capture whole tapes into FCP, but use a multi platform logging program to do the note taking. Come to think of it, using xml you might be able to get away with one license for a pc copy.
