24pA field dominance?
I’m a bit confused as to how to capture 24pA. I used the preset in FCP for 2:3:3:2 advanced pulldown removal for capturing my 24pA video. However, when I log a clip I, find that before capturing (offline) it says that it has a LOWER field dominance! Isn’t this progressive scan material, so it should be none? Then when I try to capture this lower field dominance footage, I get the following message:

Any ideas? I was able to capture SOME of my material using capture now. (once captured it has field dominance set to “none” and pull-down has been removed)
I have been fighting this issue for some time now. Sometimes I have the issue, sometimes not. I didn’t have it when I used my DVX to capture, could it be my capture camera??? (optura 100mc)Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you use advanced puldown removal on 24pA footage (which removes fields that are in there because it’s recorded at 29.97) what you end up with is truly progressive. Fields are re-introduced if you play out to a 29.97 tape, but as long as you stay in QT there ain’t no fields.

Thanks for the reply, I understand now how it works, but I’m not sure WHAT to do??? It looks as if FCP is not removing the advanced pull-down when capturing, even though I am using the pre-set for this? I tried removing the advanced pull-down after the clip has been captured and say it has a lower field dominance and 29.97 fps, but FCP does not detect any pull-down? Any ideas?

hmm…I analyzed the clip (Tools>Analyze>Clip) and it appears a frame was dropped. Could this have anything to do with the problem?

It doesn’t appear to to be an issue with the capture camera, I tried capturing w/my DVX100B and I get the same problem. It thinks the “media” is non-drop frame. I shot in drop-frame. (DF). By “media”, do they mean the tape, or my logging settings?

24p (23.98) content is always Non Drop….
