  • Edit insert on HDW 1800

Just did an edit to tape of an 88 minute HD program to a new Sony HDW 1800 HDCam deck. Assemble edit worked perfectly and the whole 88 minutes went down from an HD uncompressed 10bit timeline. However, near the end (it’s always at the end!) there was text that I had missed covering with black for this textless version. No problem I thought, just insert black.

When I tried to do that with FCP it aborted both preview and insert, just as the edit started. Changed pre roll, no difference. Tried to just insert the black from the front panel edit control and still no joy, until I had FCP playing a long slug, instead of sitting paused on slug. I assume the HDW 1800 doesn’t like seeing non playing signal, which is a problem as FCP always goes into edit from a paused frame. Anyone else had similar issues with this machine or this characteristic?

Where is the deck’s REFERENCE signal coming from?

I have external composite sync going to the Decklink and the HDW. Assemble was no problem and I usually do inserts to my DVW 2000 SD digi machine all the time with the same setup. I just swapped the machines so same wiring & reference. I have also done inserts with this setup to HDW 500 and 2000 HDCam machines so this is new to this machine or perhaps 5.1.4
