  Help – Bug in Desaturate Highlights filter !

  Hi,
  I am trying to use the Desaturate Highlights filter, but when it is applied to a clip, it makes the clip appear to be single-field, producing stair-step artifacts.

  It looks like another user had the same problem back in 2005, but no one responded to his post.

  Any ideas what is going on here, and more importantly how to fix it ?

  are you working in a 10bit sequence? If so, that’s the problem. FCP has a few rendering bugs when working at more than 8bits.

  To fix it, go in your sequence settings and switch the rendering to 8 bits.

  Hi,

  Well, nice to know it is a known bug……

  Yes, I am editing in 10bit, and I need to stay in 10bit.
  Looks like I’ll have to create the effect with another filter unless anyone else has suggestions.

  What other rendering problems does FCP have in 10bit ?

  Another that I remember of is with matte feathers.
