    oi,

Copy and paste it in a PSD document, same size and import in FCP.
    Thats how i do it.
Its probebly possible to change it in the preference, how FCP would handle alpha from AI files. But i cant find it either.
The psd thing is good, cause the vectors of AI will be pixeled in FCP anyhow.

    Peace

    Hi,

I have done that, but what I find is the render time takes longer. At least with the illustrator I can do a preview play.

Then maby export it out off PSD in PNG with alpha. These are pretty low in memory, and doable in quality…
    Otherwise, get some more ram(?)

    Hi,

My Final Cut (5.1.4) doesn’t allow for png’s to be imported. I have around 2GB which copes well with other edits. I think it may be a better option to intergrate it with motion then import it into FC Pro.

try saving as a PDF with transparency, that way it stays as vector

and yes PDF’s do work in FCP v 4.5 and later.

    Hi grafxflow,
By any chance are you making your Ilustrator in CMYK? Are CMYK the .png that you can not import?
FC do not open CMYK files. The same happens with any .tiff, .psd or whatever graphic that you want to bring to FC. All must be RGB.

That right Gary. I’ve noticed that to check the option: CREATE PDF COMPATIBLE FILE is a must when you save Ilustrator CS2 files to be open in FC. If you don’t check the option, FC can not read the alpha channel.
    Cheers,

that is correct, remember that PDF is the default adobe”bridge” format between the adobe apps otherwise you are just creating a file to be seen by only the other adobe products.

maybe something to look forward with in premiere.
