  • Creating a Split Slide Transition so it “opens” on the Next Shot

Posted by Rob Gee on February 28, 2007 at 4:07 pm

Hi, I’m trying to work a transtiion, and am having some trouble, and need help. Consulted the manuals but wasn’t able to find my answer.

I have a title shot (white letter against black) and have created an FCP split slide transition — so it breaks in the middle vertically, and then “opens” like a curtain out to the edges of the frame. What I want is for the following shot to appear underneath — so that following shot is seen as soon as the “curtain opens.” I haven’t figured out the trick.

Anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you. I’m using FCP 4.5. – Rob

    If I understand you correctly…

The two video clips that you’re transitioning between…are they both on one track in the timeline with the transition touching both clips?

Move the first clip up 2 lines to another track. Put the curtain transition on that clip. It will over-lap the 2nd clip that you left on the bottom track, but they won’t touch.

Then but your text on the blank, middle track between the 2 video clips.

I don’ t have two video clips, the “text” is the first clip– the title shot. The second is the video. I tried moving to another track, but no luck yet.

You need to put the text above a solid (or slug) and apply the same transition to the solid. That way, the curtain will open on both the text and the slug revealing the video underneath.
