  FCP 5.1 Glitch on Print To Tape

  Greetings all. I’m a new editor whose assignment is to edit 2.5 hrs of footage into a 58:30 broadcast for TV. Log and capture is done from DVC Pro tapes, I make the edit and then Print To Tape back to the DVC decks.

  The problem is about 1 out of 10 tapes come out with a video glitch that lasts about 1 sec where the picture distorts. It’s frustrating as hell. I was advised to only print from the computer closest to the decks to eliminate excess cable length (which I tried). Another person said to turn off the Preview feature when doing a Print To Tape (which I thought I’d ask you all before trying). This glitch has happened about 5 times out of about 40 tapes and seems completely random.

  Any advice is appreciated!

  Maybe the deck needs maintenance?

  Thanks for the input, Chris. What I did was go to Edit To Tape instead of Print To Tape for the last few days and so far no more glitches.
