Problems dragging files onto timeline
I captured DV Cam tape off of a Sony DSR-1500A and when I was done the video was a little over 3 hours long. However, when I went to drag it onto the timeline it was only about 46 seconds of bars. When I view the video using Finder or Quicktime, the whole 3 hours of video is there and so is audio. But when I drag it onto the timeline, there’s only about 46 seconds on there. Even when I view it in Final Cut, there’s only 46 seconds of Bars there. If you could help me with this problem, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!!!

The bars you are referring to.. Are they on the tape or do they show as a substitute for “missing video”? Do you have audio in the 46 seconds?
What kind of system are you working on?

I’m workin’ on a Final Cut HD. I had no audio and the bars were at the beginning of the video. Someone came in and figured it out. Actually they just dragged the file onto desktop and then dragged it in to Final Cut and all of the 3 hours were there. It was really strange. Any explanation? Thanks.

That’s problably a problem with your external drive.
Since you dragged the clip/file onto the desktop, which means copying the file to you internal drive, I’m assuming the file was on an external drive.
What kind of output/cable are you working with?
Working with clips that long on an external drive can often cause trouble. I have had somewhat the same problem when speeding up an hour of footage in a timelapse. it goes all colourish… and the sound goes away.
That is on a FW 800 disc.
