not exactly an FCP question, but it relates. a friend told me that ALL of his old archived CDs and DVDs were “bad” because he had labeled them with a Sharpie. i didn’t believe him, came home, and put a few oldies in my Mac, and sure enough, the file/folder and filename structure was intact, but nothing would open.

could it be the dreaded Sharpie?

I’ve been doing this for years. Never had a problem… yet. Don’t scare me!

I just unarchived an 18 month old project from three DVD’s, all labeled with Sharpies.

    I didn’t have any problems.

I think it might be coincidence.

alrighty…well, glad to hear no one is having this problem. it could be the way i had “saved” these files in the first place, probably with Roxio on my PC. i’m just bewildered that the files and folders are all there, but the files won’t open. some are images, some are other documents.

Sharpie makes CD/DVD safe markers, so why not just get one to be safe?
