I am inputing DVCam material from my Sony DSR-1500 SDI through an AJA I/O to FCP. When I have done this in the past, I have not been able to detect a real difference. I do it mostly for the better graphics, still resolution, and BetaSP footage. Now when I do it, the DVCam footage I shot comes in through SDI onto the uncompressed sequence with higher luminence. It’s not just brighter, it looks like it has a filter on it and it loses some of its color from the original DVCam footage. Weirdly, the color on the DVCam footage on a DV sequence looks more solid? Am I doing something wrong?

I don’t know the reason for that luma shift, but I would rather capture (I do it like that) directly the DVCam as DV and them bring it to a 10b Unc time-line. You are over-loading your hard-disks without any bennefit because the 10b Unc takes 6 folds more of space.
    Cheers,
