If you are outputting 23.98 psf, probably. If outputting 1080i, any ole bb generator will do. There’s no capture card that I know of for FCP that will generate tri level sync.

thank j.. yeah its 1080i 29.97. what do you mean by any ole bb. it has to be tri-level which is expensive anyway you look at it no? obviously i would rent. and ot i hear sony is releasing a $30k hdcam player/recorder. Someone told me i could rent for 300/day which is very cheap to output hdcam masters. im new to the fcp/hd world as you know, so school me plz -c

Tri Level sync is only for laying off video at a true 23.98 frame rate. With 1080i 29.97, you can use any old NTSC black burst (bb) generator such as the wildly popular Horita BSG-50 since the frame rate is the same as SD NTSC. It can’t be much to rent one of those, at all ($25 or so). Hell, you could buy one. https://www.horita.com/ and look up the BSG-50 (not the BG-50). Depending on the deck, you MIGHT not need one at all, but it’s never a bad idea. IT’s one of those pieces of equipment that you will probably never touch once it’s installed, but it’s good to have sitting there when you need it.

As far as a 30,000 HDCam recorder, I have not heard, but it’s not something we wouldn’t buy anyway so it’s not really on my radar at the moment.

    im assuming its this one

before my choice was an f500 and your lucky if you can get it for under 700/day

btw, can you take a look at my post up top about stability problems.. this is so frustrating, im thinking about just reinstalling the os and fcp pro studio.. it might be that my project file is over 500mb but i still dont see any justification for faulty/unstable software. i should perhaps start dividing my project. all these issues make me want to finance an avid adrenaline, haha and spendin 20k is the LAST thing i want to do 🙁

I know you have been having serious problems. i can assure you FCP 5.1.2 is extremely stable. Reinstalling is not a bad idea. You say a G5 Quad, you don’t mean an intel, right? Not a MacPro, right? Continue this in the other thread as I have responded there as well.

it’s not the frame rate but the HD format that needs tri level due to the variety of HD formats.

    Bud…

Your project file is over 500 meg! You definitely have issues, alright.

Divide it up, dude! There’s no reason to have a project file to go over 40 meg unless you are working on the documentary from hell… Any project that goes above 40 meg will have stability issues, for sure. I’m not sure of how you are doing this project but you need to divide it up. I have a co-worker that is working on a small budget film and his project files are around 46 meg.
