Poster frames and thumbnails question
Hi
I’m getting a strange problem in that everytime I change a mark in/out point, all of my thumbnails change to a grey square with a cross in and then they all refresh.I read the manual and it said that I could set a ‘poster frame’ which would be a still frame that represented that clip.
From what I understand, that poster frame should stay static and thus should not need to be refreshed whenever I move the in/out point.HOWEVER… No matter how many times I try to set the poster frames, they are always reset when I mark an in/out point causing every clip in an open bin to have it’s thumbnail refreshed! I know that having too many bins open at once is bad so I am keeping it to a minimum (3 bins with thumbnails [about 15 clips in each], 2 bins in list mode ).
I also followed the manuals instrucions about increasing the thumbnail and harddisk cache size to allow for more thumbnails to be show but it’s not helped. I’m not sure how high I can take these two figures either without impacting system/FCP performance.
Anyone got any suggestions please?

The poster frames you’re thinking of only display in the browser, not on the timeline.

that’s what I’m talking about – sorry about the confusion.
I set the posterframe for the clip in the bin (browser) and thats what keeps changing when I change the mark in/out points.
Or am I confused and the bin is not teh browser?Dave

That’s normal behavior. The thumbnail represents the current In Point for the clip. If you want a different thumbnail to represent various areas of the same clip, then you have to create a new clip for each thumbnail.

That’s the way the application works. If you mark an In point it sets that as the poster frame.

Oh I see. The manual is a little misleading then. it says you can set posterframes with the inpoint or with ctrl-p. The way I read it was that this would create a non-moving poster frame…. which incidentally Apple would be a nice option 🙂
OK so having solved the fact that I can’t have a static poster frame in the browser, can anyone let me know what the maximum I can up my cache size to please.
