  Turning off incremental numbering while loging.

  Does anyone know if it is possible to turn off the incremental numbering that happens automatically while loging?
  Example I set IV (for interview) in the description field, Anthony in the scene field, then I when I hit log clip (with the prompt on) to enter specific text like a synopsis of what is being said it adds a number. I can delete this but with all the footage I have to log every little thing adds up.

  I’m not at my FCP machine right now but those little blue check marks affect how clips are auto-tagged.

  This isn’t what you want to hear but we’ve found accepting some quirks in FCP is far easier than trying to break FCP’s sillier and more presumptuous interface elements. I have gotten very good at deleting FCP’s logging mistakes but I have also found the incremental numbers to be much more useful than i thought possible, even if they are completely unrelated to the logging of the clip. Gives me one more searchable datapoint.

  I use the incrmenter for reel name, and make that my clip name as well, so i can see at a glance where all my media comes from

  I try no to use lengthy names as clip names, such as “bill walks in to room, kills brother” I use names more like “bill pov” or “exterior shoot”

  or Reel5
  I use the other fields for pertinent data, like scene and take

  adn i also concur that accepting the @#$%^ idiosyncrasies of fcp IS faster than fighting them, or trying to even bend them
