Final Cut Extreme/v.6 G5 friendly?
When Final Cut Extreme or FCP 6 is released, will it be so engineered for Intel that my current dual 2.7 G5 w/ Kona 2 won’t be able to run it smoothly?

You’re kidding, right? Apple hasn’t even announced plans for future versions of FCP, let alone tech specs.

While we can’t possibly answer this question right now, I find it very unlikely that Apple will abandon professional users with G5s so soon.
It’s entirely possible it won’t support ALL G5s…there could still be a speed requirement and probably dual chips or dual core required.
But as for the PPC vs. Intel aspect? I’m certain it won’t be “Intel Only” any time soon.

It will run faster on an Intel since it will be a universal binary and Intel machines are already faster than G5’s. With the announcements made by Intel and IBM a few days ago, the future seems endless right now for Intel boxes.
Like Arnie says, nobody knows anything about the next FCP version, at least publicly.

Motion v1 at a stroke rendered ALL pre-G5 graphics cards obsolete.
Whilst the next versions of FCPro/FCExpress will no doubt be PPC compatible, there is no doubt that an advance such as Final Cut Extreme would be COULD similarly render earlier hardware beneath its minimum specifications for installation. -

That’s all pure fiction, if anybody here would know, they couldn’t even tell you that they do, let alone what they know.
So, just to add to speculations, we might also see a split in the line of the products: something like Final Cut Studio 5.5 just adding minor improvements plus some bug fixes (DVDSP and Compressor need them desperately!) and then Final Cut Extreme 1.0, which might very well be limited to MacTels. Think about Final Touch, that didn’t come cheap and will probably soon be integrated into an Apple product. Or think about mixing different formats in the timeline in realtime
