  Audio Sample rate problems

  Hi guys

  I’ve digitised loads of DV-PAL footage into my machine and the odd clip has a strange sample rate.
  90% of the clips have a sample rate of 48KHz – Great. But the other 10% have sample rates of 48004.3 or 48004.1 etc. Strange numbers yeah!

  I don’t have the tapes to re-digitise the clips as they are with the director so I need to re-sample the audio back to 48khz. How do I do this?
  Can I do this from within FCP like I could in AVID? (love FCP by the way – not flaming it)

  Yes you can do it in FC. just bring the audio to the time line and export as a .mov (only audio). Set your audio prefferences before to export. You can do it too exporting as .aiff from FC or from QT setting the datarate to 48Khz and 16bits and two discreet channels to keep the audio from your DV tapes in separated channels.Cheers,

  Great. Thanks for that.

  Just to check, is there no way of doing this without creating another clip – I think this will lose it’s refernece to the tape + timecode etc. am i right?

  You must create a new file anyway. You can keep the same TC. You must create a sequence that start with the same TC that you clip. You can set it in the prefferences. As deafault all the sequences start by 1.00.00.00, but you can change it. Another way is to copy and paste the TC of your original clips to the news using the QT player. I do not remember quite well but I think you must open the Properties (Com J) select the TC and pick “Extract”. You will get your TC channel in a new window. Then copy and in the Edit menu of the new clip select “Add to movie” (or “add to movie and Scale”). Probably you should eliminate the original TC (Deete in the properties window). Sorry I not sure about the last step. I used this technic to set audio in QT movies without sound. I guess should work fine with the TC because is a similar kind of data channel.
