  • Multiple erros when rendering

Posted by Alexandre Van de sande on January 22, 2007 at 1:35 pm

I got a deadline next friday and had been test rendering my project since last week, and 75% of the times it does not completes the rendering.

It has a bunch f different message errors, the most mysterious being
“After Effects: not enough memory to create COR_BibAlloc.
    (41612K requested, 36312K available)”

I haven’t found anything in my computer, my project or in google called BibAlloc….

Another error I get very frequently is:
    After Effects error: could not create 5000 x 5000 image buffer. (7 :: 39)

Yes, I have some very big composition, but one of them is being used in a sphere that has a lot of zoom (a zoom from earth in space to a country), so I can’t see how I could not have such composition…

So there are three questions in one:

1-Does anyone knows what is BibAlloc??
2-Is there a way to stop the image buffer error without changing the comp size?
3-Is there a more general way to make AE render more and bitch less?

    I have already done:
    -enabled disk caching (20 gigs)
-changed the secret system preferences to purge cache every 1 frame
    -disabled open-gl
-tried to render in half size (it stops rendering in random frames. usually more in the end when in smaller sizes)

    My system:
iMac Intel core duo 1.83 ghz 2 Gig Ram, OsX Tiger

    Thanks!

i had the image buffer problem problem last week, also on an intel mac (macpro 3ghz, 4gb ram)… i had never seen this on g5, i wonder if this a negative of powerpc emulation under rosetta…

i did the same settings adjustments you did, but i also pre-rendered about 75% of the final comp in 3 pre comps, all of which contained large images, prior to final render. you may need to break up your earth into several prerendered images that are cropped to more manageable sizes and disolve between them as you zoom in.

i also kept purging everything before rendering.

(i may pull my project over to an older g5 and see if i encounter the same problem)

[Alexandre Van de Sande] “1-Does anyone knows what is BibAlloc??”

Those are AE’s internal function calls.

[Alexandre Van de Sande] “2-Is there a way to stop the image buffer error without changing the comp size?”

Most likely it’s one of your effects. Try to strip down all effects to the bare minimum. If it is an option, pre-render every element you can and replace the comps. Also render out to a image sequence and assemble it later. Even under worst conditions there is a chance you may be able to render everything by skipping already existing frames and only doing the missing chunks.

[Alexandre Van de Sande] “Is there a more general way to make AE render more and bitch less?”

No, but like I said, the problem must not necessarily be AE itself, even if it is not optimized for intel Macs.
