  23.98 credit roll for 720p DVCPRO HD sequence

  Hi all,

  I’ve searched and searched, to no avail. I have an “advanced question”, if I may…

  I need to find the correct configuration to build a credit roll for an HD film. I tried several solutions (Boris, FCP, After Effects, Motion) and finally gave up and made a file in Photoshop that I move up with Motion keyframes in the Timeline, as I usually do without a problem.

  Here are some specs:

  Film shot with an HVX200 in DVCPRO HD 720p 23.98 fps.
  FCP 5.1.2 sequence settings : DVCPRO HD 720p0 23.98 fps.

  Credit roll is 40 seconds long
  Photoshop file is 960 X 12000 pixels

  The end result is always the same : at 23.98 fps, the titles jerk along the vertical path. I tried rendering the titles as an Animation QT file at 59.94 fps (which was smooth), inporting it into my sequence and rendering, but it starts looking like crap again.

  So, HD experts, what should I do?

  In FCP use the Boris Title Crawl in the Generators tab. Edit in a 3 or 4 minute slug from the generator. Double-click and select the controls tab in the Viewer. Click to the Boris Window. In the Boris window you can set your tabs (left, right or center). Make sure you select the 1:2:1 deflicker box and select “Roll” for animation type.

  I’ve used this for many, many shows, mostly for broadcast.

  If I did scrolling credits, I’d be able to tell you.

  Are you judging the quality of all of this on an external monitor?

  Hi Shane,

  Thanks, yeah, I did. Funky thing happens on 2 different projects. Outputting as HD on an external monitor, and downconverted to SD via Kona. I’m pretty sure it’s a speed issue, although most of what I’ve read points to the fact that 24 fps credits are supposed to go by reaaaaaaal slow. What about TV series shot in HD? How do they pull it off if they online in 24 or 23.98?
