G-tech’s G-drive Mini with FCP?
Posted by Chuckfaz on January 27, 2007 at 8:00 pmWill this 7200rpm, bus powered FW800 drive work well as an editing drive for FCP?

The answer depends upon what video format you’re editing as much as anything. If you’re editing DV, any 7200 RPM drive using firewire 800 will be more than sufficient.
In terms of your post below reagrding the guts of the mini drive vs. the guts of a full-size drive… Drive throughput in controlled by two major variables, RPM and bus speed. So, 7200 RPM on a firewire 800 bus is all you need to consider. If a G-drive mini has lower throughput because of the the components in the drive it would be very minimal.
