AE 7.0 Ram Preview corruption
Hello.
I am attempting to resolve an odd issue for a client, with very little luck.
System: Quad 2.5Ghz Power Mac G5, 8Gb Ram OS X 10.4.8, After Effects 7.0, AJA Kona card, Quaddro FX 4500 Graphics Card, FiberJet SAN Fiber Channel Controller card.
A few weeks ago the system was working 100% fine. The client suddenly has had crashing when using Ram Preview, AE mentions OpenGL in the crash report. Disabling OpenGL seems to resolve the crashing, however ram previewing has some odd behaviour.
Ram preview the Comp. Uses 2.63Gig of ram (as reported by Activity Monitor). Scrub through the timeline to portions it hasnt ram previewed. For every frame you scrub, it seems to remove very large portions of the cache at random (from green to blue). Attempting to ram preview again results in a much shorter amount of time able to be previewed. You can repeat this until you can only preview a few frames. This sounds like a classic memory issue.
Things Ive done:
Disabled OpenGL – result – no more crashing, but ram preview corruption.
Ive run Apples Hardware Test CD which has reported no issues. Ive removed AEs preferences (the 7.0 folder in ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/) as well as the com.adobe.aftereffects.plist file.I have disabled Video output to the Kona as well. No changes. No new plugins have been installed either in the interim time.
Has anyone seen this before? No system configuration changes that I have been made aware of.
Id appreciate any insight. Im no AE expert – more of an Avid/FCP guy.
The settings for Ram/Disk cache are currently at default, and the issue is reproducable. (After removing prefs).
Thanks for any help – Id be super curious to know what causes this.
My next step will be to re-seat all of the expansion cards. Who knows. Thanks!
