I’m trying to export a sequence in 5.1.2. All I’m getting for my efforts is the first 11 seconds of clips… and they aren’t the real clips! I’m using version 2 xml and outside media is checked. Goal is to get this onto a 5.0 machine.

I tried Duck’s XML exporter and it gives me the exact same thing.

Before I get into TOO much detail about this sequence… is there something that just won’t work with XML that might be in this?

    Thanks,

    CaptM

THere has to be something wrong with your sequence. What’s in it? Playdoh?

    haha!!

    this is really odd…

Someone gave me the sequence asking if I could export XML so 5.1 machine could also work with 5.0 machine.

    I’m stuck.

Hmm, I’ve done many many XMLs in FCP 5.1.2 and everything works great. Better than ever, actually.

    List your steps for me.

    hey CaptM,

do you get any “fcp encountered a non-critical error, do you want to see the log” type message when you import the xml?
if it might help, you’re welcome to zip up and send me the xml file and i’ll try it on my system. email in profile

    cheers

He sent it to me and I got that error. Mike (Capt.) said that is what he got too.

Sending you the project file Andy.

    Hi CaptM

I took a look at the project and xml and I think you’ve probably discovered a “limitation” 😉
What is giving it kittens is that you are referencing freeze frames taken from nested sequences, and some of those sequences don’t exist within the project except as referenced by these freeze frame items … it seems to fall apart when it hits those!

Remove those items and voila, Bob’s your uncle etc, it works nicely … except of course those items are gone!

Probable best workaround for the moment and in future, would be to export a single frame of those nested sequence and use that 1 frame media clip instead of a freeze (use the paste attributes –> contents option to bring them into the timeline without reworking all the moves).

I’ve been pretty busy today and haven’t really had time to look more closely at the actual xml data to see what specifically is causing the problem with these stills, not that I’m certain I would recognise it if I did!

    Anyway, hope it helps
    Andy

    Huge thanks, Andy…

Am trying to help a friend. Not sure best workflow habits were followed. Will instruct.

Thanks again to all who tried… especially Andy.
