  DVCPRO format in AE an FCP

  Hi,

  I’m currently working on a project which requires use of DVCPRO format. Whenever I send rendered footage from AE in the DVCPRO 960×720 16:9 format to my client who imports it into FCP with the same settings, the footage appears stretched.

  Here are screen shoots of the AE comp and FCP project settings.

  

  

  What are some ways to solve this problem?

  Render your footage out of AE as 1280×720. That is what I do.

  Your Client should be using a the DVCPro HD/24 Easy Setup. If they do, it should work perfectly. This is exactly what we do with all our After Effects renders now. 960×720 should play back perfectly in a DVCPro HD timeline. Your client may be trying to put it into a different format timeline.

  Thanks for the responses guys,

  Walter: i’ve passed that info to my client, waiting on a response.
  Shane: would I keep all the settings for the AE DVCPRO preset but just change the width of the comp?

  The client kept saying it seemed like 4:3 ratio footage.

  I’m not a FCP user,is this a common problem.

  There are no settings in AE for DVCPRO HD…not default. I used the HDTV 1280×720 settings, and then used the DVCPRO HD codec when I rendered and it all came out fine in the end. The QT was 16:9, not 4:3 Anamorphic.

  The raw footage is in a 4:3 frame, but is anamorphic footage, meaning that it stretches out to 16:9.
