  • Edit to tape without losing timecode…

Posted by Brian Pitt on January 16, 2007 at 4:38 pm

I feel silly posting this, but I’ve searched the forums and I can’t find the solution I’m looking for…

Here is what I need to do:

I have a hard drive FULL of past projects, and I need to free up some space. Because of that, I’m making DVCPro masters of many of the older projects that I haven’t touched in a while. I’m using a panasonic AJ-D455 via firewire connection.

I have a timeline set up and I’m trying to get the timecode of the timeline to transfer directly to the tape. Every time I attempt, I get all of the video transfered, but the timecode isn’t transfering over.

What I have found in the forums is that I may need to “stripe the tape?” (hanging head in shame)…I don’t know what that means. If anyone could have a little sympathy on me and help me out, I would really appreciate it!!! Thanks in advance!!!

Manually set the TC generator ON THE DECK to the starting TC you want (be sure and allow for Bars, Tone, Slate & Black, if you need it on the tape.)

Then record black and that timecode onto the tape for a duration sufficient to allow an OVERLAP of (just a few seconds past) the start of your timeline’s TC in FCP.

Then, assemble the Timeline onto the tape from FCP at the proper TC.

    Brian,

    See this link… https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145129

Hard drives are the best bargain in the technology biz right now. Your time is a lot more valuable.

not a bad option…but even if we went that route, we would still need masters.

    thanks for the suggestion.
