  • Working with .m2t files…HELP!!!

Posted by Tim Baker on January 12, 2007 at 4:39 am

I recently purchased an nNovia QC Deck…it is proving an extremely frustrating $2000.00 purchase on various levels, but I believe in the product and have a great experience with the owner of the company and his daughter helping me trouble shoot the thing.

One problem is this: when you shoot in HDV mode…the drive records to .m2t files which the current iteration of FCP does not readily work with…so it has to be converted to QuickTimes or something more useful.

What I need are suggestions as to what to use and what to convert to. Keep in mind I have already spent $2000.00 on the drive…so a cheap or cost effective solution would be great.

    Thanks so much…

Stream clip will convert these to many formats and it’s free. Google streamclip. I’m not up with hdv but I would think the .m2t files are similar to .m2v files which are the video portion of an mpeg2 stream without the audio.(before muxing or after demuxing)

I think the Apple Intermediate codecs are developed with that purpose.

Maybe…but you cannot do a direct import of them into FCP after dragging the clips from the hard drive recorder to the internal drives of the editor.

    Thanks

Have you tried importing into Compressor?

This should be the same file format that would be recorded to tape if you had used tape. Were you editing from tape from this camera previously? If so, this would be a good excuse er.. reason to talk to the daughter again.

Looking at the specs, wouldn’t you be better of recording QT movs on the deck?

    Just a ‘serving sugestion’

It will not record .mov in HDV mode…it only records .m2t in HDV mode. This is the QC Deck…not their previous product.

One of the painful things that I was informed about after plopping down $2000.00. Along with it not being able to timelapse in HDV, which I understand if you consider the GOP structures of the various HDV offerings, but I was informed that it would by the sales rep at the time of purchase.

He obviously was less informed than I was.
